Art Cavaliers Informal Evening Tours

The Wallace Collection’s popular Art Cavaliers evening classes are returning this year for a remarkable eighth year running.

The Laughing Cavalier

Frans Hals, ‘The Laughing Cavalier’, 1624.

Held in our beautiful galleries after the Collection has closed to the public, this series of five special evening tours allows participants to discover art history in an informal, friendly setting, and to learn more about the fascinating history of the Wallace Collection and its works of art.

Art Cavaliers is perfect for those who have always wanted to know more about art but never thought they had the time. Held fortnightly on Friday evenings, from 6.30 – 8.30pm, the courses are designed to suit those with a busy schedule, or those who simply wish to experience one of the UK’s finest national museums as part of this special season of evening tours. Each class focuses on a different area of the Wallace’s fascinating and diverse collection, and will be hosted by one of our expert curators.

This year’s sessions will be:

Session One: Introduction to the Collection & Masterpieces of Portraiture: Paintings and Sculptures
Friday 11 October – Dr Christoph Martin Vogtherr

Session Two: French Decorative Arts
Friday 25 October – Dr Helen Jacobsen

Session Three: Romance, Colour & History: Nineteenth-century Painting
Friday 8 November – Stephen Duffy

Session Four: The Age of Chivalry
Friday 22 November – Dr Tobias Capwell

Session Five: The Art of the Low Countries
Friday 6 December – Dr Lucy Davis

Courtyard

The Wallace Collection’s courtyard, setting of Peyton & Byrne’s acclaimed Wallace Restaurant

Each session will include a refreshment break, during which wine and soft drinks will be served in our soaring glazed courtyard, allowing guests to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of this space by night. For a small supplement of £25, Art Cavaliers will also be able to attend a special 3-course welcome dinner in the courtyard restaurant, hosted by Dr Christoph Vogtherr, Director of the Wallace Collection.

In addition to these benefits, course participants will receive:

  • Wallace Collection Scala Book (a detailed illustrated guide of the history of the Collection and many key works of art)
  • Wallace Collection Pen and Notebook
  • Invitations to Wallace Collection exhibition private views
  • 30% off your food and wine bill in the Wallace Restaurant when dining on a Friday or Saturday night until the end of Art Cavaliers.

The cost of the five Art Cavaliers sessions is £175 per person, or £200 including the welcome dinner after the first evening’s class. Due to the popularity of these evenings we regret that sessions cannot be booked individually. To find out more about this year’s Art Cavaliers courses or to book your place, please email guestlist@wallacecollection.org or call 020 7563 9567. Book early to avoid disappointment!
