Fundraising Focus: New ways of giving

This month’s Fundraising Focus looks not at how we spend money, but at how we raise it in the first place, and our exciting new partnership with the National Funding Scheme. As previous articles have explained, as a national museum we are very fortunate to receive a government grant which helps to cover our most basic running costs. In addition, we must generate over £2 million ourselves every year in order to support work including conservation, research, and education. It is this work which keeps the Wallace Collection a vibrant and evolving place, and which ensures that our art works can be enjoyed by as many people as possible.

This £2 million comes from several different sources. We hold corporate events in our galleries and Courtyard, profits from which go towards the work of the Collection. Our excellent restaurant and gift shop also contribute, and we are continually grateful for the support of the many charitable trusts and foundations who generously donate funds towards specific projects and activities. Last, but by no means least, are the donations made by you, the visitor, both online and in person at the Wallace Collection itself. We are very proud to be able to offer free entry to all our visitors, but this does mean we are reliant on the generous contributions left by visitors in our donation boxes on site.

This is where the National Funding Scheme comes in. Over the last few months they have been rolling out a national platform, DONATE, which makes it easy for anyone to give using new technologies. We are delighted that the Wallace Collection is one of DONATE’s launch partners.

We have two causes: a painting conservation of Aelbert Cuyp’s Shipping on the Maas, Dordrecht; and our free education programmes, which help thousands of young people every year to engage with and enjoy the treasures of the Collection. You can donate online here, or you can text your donation as follows:

Painting conservation: Text WAL001 £5 to 70970

Education programmes: Text WAL002 £5 to 70970

Text amounts can be £3, £5, or £10.

The Wallace Collection urgently needs to raise funds for these and other charitable works. Thank you very much for your support.

Your donation is to the National Funding Scheme and indicates a specific cause. The National Funding Scheme makes a charge of 4% on your donations to cover advertising and other services. Third-party payment charges may also apply. Text charges will be as per your standard network plan.
