Enjoy a talk by Senior Furniture Conservator, Jurgen Huber, on the 'True Colours Revealed – the treatment of a chest of drawers for Marie-Antoinette' display currently on display in the Conservation Gallery. This display examines the recent conservation treatment of a chest of drawers (commode) made for Queen Marie-Antoinette by Jean-Henri Riesener and now on display in the Study at the Wallace Collection. Treatment has revealed how this remarkable piece of furniture might have looked when the Queen took delivery of it at Versailles in 1780, for use in her cabinet intérieur, her most private room. Originally vibrantly coloured, the woods were chosen for their highly coloured hues or stained blue, yellow, pink and green to match the décor of the room. Exquisite pieces of furniture such as this enable us to glimpse something of the beauty of the original scheme of the cabinet intérieur. This Display Talk will take place in the Lecture Theatre.
