About this session
Ranjit Singh: Sikh, Warrior, King explores the remarkable life and legacy of Ranjit Singh (1780-1839). His rise to power brought about the hugely influential Sikh Empire – a kingdom which created seismic change in the region, impacting the fortunes of the Mughal and British Empires and shaping the future of the Indian subcontinent.
Bring your class and enjoy exclusive access to the exhibition to see glittering weaponry, intricate miniature paintings and exquisite jewellery from the Sikh Empire close up. Students will investigate how this extraordinary individual brought about a golden age in which trade boomed, the arts flourished, and a formidable army was developed.
Our educators will lead your students through a short enquiry exercise, exploring what the objects on display tell us about Ranjit Singh’s life, and the empires he ruled and encountered. Following the exhibition visit, students will continue their work in our Learning Studio, presenting their findings to the class.
