We want all our visitors to have a positive experience while also ensuring the best care for our collection. Please help us by:
- Not touching objects on display, including frames, sculptures and furniture
- Ensuring any part of your body or belongings remain behind barriers
- Not smoking or vaping in our building or entrance courtyard
- Not running or consuming food and drink in our gallery spaces
- Showing respect for our staff and other visitors
Bag searches
Security at the Wallace Collection is paramount. We reserve the right to inspect any bag, parcel or other item entering or leaving our premises. Refusal to allow a search may result in admission being withdrawn.
Visitor lockers and prohibited items
For the safety of our visitors and the security of our collection, please do not bring the following items:
- Large bags or other items measuring over 56cm x 25cm x 45cm
- Folding bicycles
- Adult skateboards and scooters, e-bikes or e-scooters
- Helium balloons or floral arrangements
Free visitor lockers are available on the Lower Ground Floor to store personal items. Large umbrellas must be left at the Information Desk at our entrance.
Identification of security personnel
Our security and gallery staff can be identified by their branded identity passes. They are authorised to intervene at any time to ensure the safety and security of our collection and building, as well as staff and visitors.
CCTV surveillance
CCTV is in operation throughout our premises for crime prevention and public safety. The system is actively monitored and controlled by the Wallace Collection. Please read our full CCTV policy here.
Emergency procedures
In the event of an emergency such as a fire or security alert, please follow the instructions of our staff and adhere to all announcements. All visitor facilities, including toilets, the Courtyard Restaurant and Learning studio, must be vacated immediately during an evacuation. During an evacuation, it is not possible to collect items from the visitor lockers.
Safeguarding and visitor vigilance
We encourage all our visitors to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour or items to our staff. Together, we can create a safe and enjoyable environment at the Collection.
We work with children, young people, families and adults at risk as part of our activities. These include age-specific learning sessions at the museum. Our Safeguarding policy and procedures always apply and must be followed at all times.

Zero-tolerance
We ask everyone visiting the Collection to respect and cooperate with our staff and other visitors. To aid this, we operate a zero-tolerance policy with any form of antisocial, aggressive or violent behaviour. Visitors exhibiting this behaviour will be asked to leave immediately and may be reported to the police.
Aggressive or abusive behaviour includes:
- Using threatening or offensive language, whether verbal or written
- Making derogatory or discriminatory remarks
- Making unsubstantiated allegations against staff or other visitors
Photography
Photography for personal use is permitted within our galleries; however, the use of monopods, tripods, selfie sticks is prohibited. Video recording and flash photography is not permitted.
Photography in our temporary exhibitions is not permitted unless otherwise stated.

Food and drink
Food and drink can be purchased in our Courtyard Restaurant and Café and must only be consumed there. Outdoor seating in our entrance courtyard is available for those bringing their own refreshments.
Smoking and vaping
Smoking and vaping is not permitted anywhere on our premises or entrance courtyard.
Mobile phones
Please set your mobile phone to silent when inside our gallery spaces. Phones should be used discreetly and in consideration of other visitors.
Access and parking
Parking is not permitted in our entrance courtyard. Blue Badge parking bays are available on nearby streets, including the south side of Manchester Square. Please read further Access information here.
Unattended items and lost property
Please do not leave personal property unattended. Any unattended items will be handed over to our Security team and processed in accordance with our security and lost property procedures.
Unattended luggage or sealed packages that appear to pose a security risk will be reported to the relevant authorities and may be destroyed without warning in the interest of public safety. We do not accept liability for any item may be removed or destroyed for safety reasons.
To enquire about an item of lost property, please contact our Control Room on 0207 563 9524 or enquiries@wallacecollection.org. Items unclaimed after one month will be donated to charity or disposed of responsibly.
Group visits
All groups comprising 6 or more people must book their visit in advance. Groups size is limited to 20 people, with a maximum of two groups per entry time.
Official Wallace Collection tours and events have priority over external groups in our galleries. Groups are requested not to block access through entrances and doorways.

Sketching in the galleries
Individuals are welcome to sketch from artworks in our galleries and must adhere to our guidance, using permitted materials.
